4 Signs You Might Need Emergency Roofing
When your roof is damaged, it’s very important to fix the problem as soon as possible. Nonetheless, contacting an emergency roofer can seem stressful.
If you’re not sure about how to tell the difference between a few chipped tiles and serious roofing damage, then you’ve come to the right place. Today, we’ll be talking about the four signs of a damaged roof and how to know if you need emergency roofing.
1. Leaking Water
Roofs that leak water are a big no-no. In some ways, the main job of a roof is to stop water from getting in and heat from getting out. If water does get in, it can cause serious damage to the property, especially if left unchecked over a long period.
2. Bad Smells
While you might not be able to hear leaking water, you may be able to smell it. If you start to notice strange smells coming from your roof, then that’s a strong sign that water is getting in somewhere and could be causing issues such as damp and mould.
3. Visible Damage
We mentioned before that there’s a difference between a few chipped tiles and serious damage, but if you’re not familiar with normal roof decay, then it can be difficult to tell between the two.
Over time, almost any roof will build up its share of dents and dings, not to mention moss, and eventually it will need replacing. That said, if you’ve had a roofing survey in the last few years that didn’t turn up any serious issues and you’ve not noticed a major visual change, then it’s probably not worth worrying about unless you experience other issues.
On the other hand, if you can see notable signs of damage after a major weather event like a storm, then the best thing you can do is get someone to take a look at it straight away. Even if it’s not a problem right now, it points to a weak spot where another storm might cause a serious emergency.
4. Poor Temperature Regulation
Although not as common as the other three, one sign that your roof may have an issue is if your house is suddenly struggling to maintain its temperature. Heat travels upwards, and without adequate roof insulation, a great deal of heat can escape through the top of the house.
If you’re suddenly finding that your house is colder than it used to be then, at very least, you should check the roof and if you find other signs of roof damage, then it’s time for emergency roofing.
